2026-11-24T17:00:00.000Z 2026-11-24T18:30:00.000Z VIRTUAL America/New_York Times columnist James Marriott joins host Alaka Halder to discuss his new book, The New Dark Ages: The End of Reading and the Dawn of a Post-Literate Society . The modern world was built on reading. Marriott argues that the spread of printing, the age of revolutions and the decline of the aristocratic order arrived together for a reason. Once enough people could read, arguments about rights, the purpose of government and the nature of scientific truth could be carried on in public and among strangers.
