This presentation will explore the expansion of secondary education for girls, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, considering the process as a topic which lends itself to a global history of education. It will consider how the establishment of girls’ Catholic secondary schools contributed to widening the horizons of a broader globalization of secondary education. The focus is schools established by the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (MSC), founded in Italy by Saint Francesca Cabrini (1850–1917).
