Recent years have seen a welcome increase in the number of stories and characters from the African diaspora on European stages. Plays like Inua Ellams’s Barber Shop Chronicles , set in six different countries, represent the diaspora as both an experience of fragmentation and as a starting point for international, multilingual community-building. In that spirit, this event brings together four playwrights whose works explore Afro-diasporic themes: two based in the UK who write in English – Inua Ellams and Zodwa Nyoni – and two based in France who write in French – Penda Diouf and Eva Doumbia.
